Army’s Lighter M8 Rifle to Reach Soldiers at Fort Bragg in December
The Army will begin fielding Sig Sauer’s M8 carbine in December, with units at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, among the first to receive it. The M8 replaces the M7, adopted as the primary service rifle less than three years ago, and is more than a pound lighter with a barrel 3.5 inches shorter. The Army has requested 14,944 M8s for fiscal 2027. More
Pentagon Says Fort Hood Shooter’s December Execution Will Be Livestreamed
The Fort Hood gunman, a former Army psychiatrist convicted of killing 13 people in the 2009 shooting, is scheduled to be executed by firing squad on Dec. 3. A War Department official told the BBC the execution will be livestreamed. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth defended the decision, saying public viewing would help people understand the consequences of such attacks. More
USS Abraham Lincoln Returns From the Iran War With Its Island Covered in Kill Marks
The carrier USS Abraham Lincoln returned to San Diego after a 321-day deployment, the second-longest of the modern carrier era, its island painted with kill marks for Iranian drones, ships and submarines. Its strike group flew 3,693 combat sorties, sank 64 Iranian vessels and shot down 77 attack drones, a Navy citation says. Its captain said no sailors or aircraft were lost. More
