Hegseth Expected to Cut 20 Percent of General and Admiral Positions
War Secretary Pete Hegseth is expected to announce a 20 percent reduction in positions designated for U.S. generals and admirals, doubling his previous 10 percent reduction target.
The cuts will affect positions across the Army, Navy, Air Force and joint military structure, with some positions eliminated and others downgraded. The changes are expected to be implemented by Jan. 1, 2027. Read

The U.S. military has completed its withdrawal from Iraq, with all combat troops and logistical support forces leaving the country under a 2024 agreement between Washington and Baghdad. About 2,500 U.S. troops had been stationed in Iraq in recent years, including at bases in Erbil and Baghdad. Read

The Navy selected Boeing over Northrop Grumman to develop its sixth-generation F/A-XX fighter, with the full-scale development phase valued at more than $20 billion. The aircraft is expected to begin flight testing in the 2030s. Read
