Florida Orders Thousands of License-Plate Cameras Removed From Highways
Florida’s Department of Transportation has revoked permits for automated license plate readers and ordered the cameras removed from state highways within 30 days over concerns about misuse, privacy and surveillance.
The move follows Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s decision to halt state funding for Flock cameras. More than 100 local governments have also canceled or declined to renew license plate reader contracts since 2025, according to the Institute for Justice. Read
