Bank of England Governor Warns Frontier AI Could Threaten Global Economy
Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey has warned G20 finance officials that rapid advances in “frontier” AI could destabilize financial systems, increase cyber risks and contribute to a global economic downturn.
Bailey called for global measures to ensure advanced AI models are developed and deployed safely. The warning comes amid growing concerns among technology companies and cybersecurity experts that increasingly capable AI systems could be used to conduct more sophisticated cyberattacks. Read

U.S. officials are considering limited strikes against Iranian military capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz to prevent Tehran from rebuilding radar and anti-ship missile systems there, according to Axios. The report came after the U.S. and Iran exchanged strikes following a monthlong lull in fighting. Trump said the U.S. would respond to the recent Iranian attacks and “hit them hard.” Read

Turkish and Somali forces retook a hijacked cargo ship off Somalia. The operation, which destroyed four pirate boats and killed 14 pirates, came after 10 days of monitoring by Turkish and Somali forces. Read

Russian strikes have wiped out about 90% of Ukraine’s modern commercial storage space, Agricultural Minister Taras Vysotskyi said, as Moscow pounds warehouses and distribution hubs. He said there is no risk of famine but warned that shoppers may find fewer products on store shelves. Read

After its 72-hour ransom countdown expired, the Russia-linked Qilin ransomware gang leaked about 6.3 gigabytes of data allegedly stolen from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, exposing files tied to criminal investigations, phone records, account details and forensic evidence. The Bureau said it cannot yet confirm the authenticity or scope of the leaked data. Read
