A Nine-Month Breach Exposed Data on More Than 3 Million Military-Linked People

Unauthorized users had access to the Defense Manpower Data Center for about nine months, from October 2025 until July, exposing names, birth dates and Social Security numbers for more than 3 million troops, veterans, families and contractors, officials said.

A flaw in a file-sharing system opened the door, patched the day it was found in July. Officials would not say who was behind it, saw no sign the data was misused, and offered those affected a year of credit monitoring. Read
